*Fernweh: That’s German for a longing to be far away, an aching need to go to faraway places, a craving for distance, an urge to travel… In this respect, it is much stronger than wanderlust, which will just have you happily hopping about. There is no English equivalent, but its opposite, Heimweh, has one: homesickness. So some suggest Fernweh might be translated literally as farsickness. But that’s not a word to me. Elsewheresickness might do, if it weren’t even less of a word. Just look at it!
